Music Stand
We began by brainstorming some initial ideas. I then travelled to the user's school to perform user testing to help us settle on a final design. We determined that the most helpful solution is to use large sheets of music. However, this presented a new issue: the size of sheet music required was too large for a regular stand and would often fall off the back.
I then went to the shop with one teammate so we could build the prototype we designed. We took the tray off of the base and shaft of a normal stand and replaced it with one that we made using a water jet and sheet metal bender.
In my Design Thinking and Communication class, my team and I were faced with the challenge of designing a music stand for a young violinist. She was very passionate about violin, but had trouble using a traditional stand due to a vision impairment.
Our final product allowed the user to hang sheet music of any size from the stand without worry of it falling off. Handles attached to the shaft provided easy rotation, so the user can hang multiple sheets at once and switch between them easily.
